About the Godmother
The Godmother is a simple two-ingredient cocktail combining vodka with amaretto. Closely related to the Godfather, which uses Scotch whisky, it replaces the whisky with the cleaner and more neutral character of vodka. This allows the almond-like sweetness and aromatic character of the amaretto to become particularly prominent.
What does a Godmother taste like?
The Godmother tastes smooth, sweet and nutty. Vodka provides a clean alcoholic backbone while amaretto contributes rich almond-like sweetness with subtle vanilla and stone-fruit notes. The result is simple, warming and distinctly liqueur-forward.
Tips for making a Godmother
Use a good-quality vodka and avoid adding too much amaretto, which can make the drink excessively sweet. Serve over a large cube of ice to keep dilution gradual while the drink remains well chilled.
